KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WIBW) -- Bubba Starling grew up less than fifty miles from Kauffman Stadium. And, on Friday, he's going to take the field there for the first time.

The Kansas City Royals called up their one-time first-round draft pick Thursday, saying he will be on the roster when the team returns from the All-Star Break.

In 2011, Starling was the fifth pick overall coming out of Gardner Edgerton High School, where he was named to All-State teams in baseball, football, and basketball. At the time, some considered him the top recruit in the nation.

So far, this season Starling has hit .310, with an .806 OPS. He's hit seven home runs in 72 games and drove in 38 for the Omaha Storm Chasers. Injuries had limited him to only 19 games in 2017.
