FORT RILEY, Kan. (WIBW) -- The largest solar program in the State of Kansas will be at Fort Riley.
In support of the Department of Defense (DoD) Privatized Housing Solar Challenge initiative, homes at Fort Riley will receive solar panels. It's part of a Corvias portfolio-wide initiative to install solar power at military installations across the US - at no cost to the military.
Corvias Operations Director Clay Boyer said they’ve been working on ways to preserve the Earth’s natural resources.
“We are installing solar panel on approximately 1,200 homes here over the next 9-10 months and it will actually offset approximately 37% of our annual consumption,” explained Boyer.
Fort Riley’s garrison commander Col. John D. Lawrence said they are committed to energy security and sustainability.
“Through this large scale generation of solar energy, we mark a significant step in achievement of Fort Riley’s energy conservation goals,” said Lawrence.
People living on post will receive notification in advance of scheduled installation times.
