A new Command Sergeant Major took charge Wednesday at Fort Riley.

CSM Craig Bishop took over as the new senior, non-commissioned officer for the 1st Infantry Division, during a change of responsibility ceremony. He said he is excited to be apart of the Big Red One.

“I look forward to the opportunity to lead such a historic division. The history is phenomenal and I'm truly humbled by the opportunity to get to know the community, the soldiers, work hand in hand not only with soldiers and NCO's but with officers to enhance the staff," explained Bishop.

They bid farewell to CSM Joseph Cornelison who held the position since 2015.

Cannons were fired during the ceremony and flowers were given to the incoming and outgoing wives of each sergeant major.

He enlisted in the army in 1992. Bishop's awards and decorations include a Legion of Merit, Bronze Star of Valor, four Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, and five Meritorious Service Medals.
