FORT RILEY, Kan. (WIBW) -- There's a new general in town who took command at Fort Riley.

A change of command ceremony took place Friday, welcoming the new Commanding General John Kolasheski and farewell to Major General Joseph Martin.

Martin took command of Fort Riley in 2016 and will go on to take a position at the Pentagon as the Director of Army Staff.

Kolasheski was the former Deputy Commanding General for the 1st Infantry Division from 2015-2016.

Kolasheski says he's happy to see this day arrive.

"I’ll tell you in my wildest dreams I never thought I would be standing on the field as the Division Commander in charge of America’s most historic division, its really a great feeling," said Kolasheski.

He hopes to continue the legacy of the generals before him.
