Food, fun and Fiesta! 86th Fiesta Mexicana kicks off with ribbon cutting

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- For Fiesta Mexicana royalty, Tuesday was the first time they get to walk around and represent Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.

King Gabriel Mosqueda III, Queen Monserrat Lopez and Princess Jeimmy Perez cut the ribbon to officially kick of the 2019 Fiesta Mexicana and as they walked around the Fiesta grounds, they interacted with friends, family and even meet new people.

"It feels really good because there is a lot of people I know and they're really proud of me,” Perez said. “Even people that I don’t know that are proud of me and it just feels great."

“It’s pretty cool,” Mosqueda said. “You get to meet new people and this is an experience that not a lot of people get to experience.”

And while they represent as royalty for the Fiesta, they get to enjoy the fun, music and, most importantly, the food!

“The music's always great, the foods amazing and you just get to have a good time,” Lopez said.

Rito Lopez II has been going to Fiesta for 48 years and said the food reminds him of his childhood.

"I miss the food from when my grandmother used to make it so I compare it to that,” Rito said.

Even though it's hot outside, he said it's worth coming out to enjoy the food and the camaraderie of Fiesta.

If you weren't able to make it out to Fiesta on Tuesday, it will be going on Wednesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to midnight..
