Less than a day after a mobile home exploded, firefighters returned to the same park where a car fire threatened to overwhelm another home, the Topeka Fire Dept. said.

Fire officials say emergency crews found a car engulfed in flames around 2:15 p.m. Thursday when they were called back to Caravan Mobile Park. The heat pouring from the flaming vehicle was damaging a nearby home and threatening to set it ablaze as well.

TFD said firefighters put out the car fire. They were able to put it out quickly enough to keep the home from catching fire. Total losses from the fire are estimated at $2,000.

Investigators are still trying determine what caused the fire.

On Wednesday night, firefighters went to the same location after neighbors heard an explosion and saw flames coming from a mobile home. Fire crews said it appears the trailer had been vacant for a long time.

Anyone with information about the circumstances of this fire are being asked to please contact Crime Stoppers at (785)234-0007 or Toll Free at 1-800-222 TIPS (8477).
