RILEY, Kan. (WIBW) - Shortly before 9:00 pm Saturday evening, a call came in regarding a fire at the corner of Madison Road and Main Street in Riley in the Sunday School building at the Crossroads Baptist Church..
Seven trucks and twenty firefighters from Riley City, Riley County, Keats and Leonardville Fire Departments arrived on scene to fight the fire.
Upon arrival crews started an exterior attack to extinguish the flames, the fire was contained to two rooms, but the entire building has smoke damage.
Within 10 minutes the crews had the fire under control and within 15 minutes the fire was extinguished.
Also on scene were members of the Riley County Police Department for traffic control around the area, as fire hose had to be stretched across the street to fight the fire.
Riley County EMS personnel were on scene in case they were needed for treatment of firefighters, but none needed treatment, and Evergy arrived on scene to turn off power to the property.
Captain Jay Holmes with the Riley City Fire Department says the cause of the fire is unable to be determined and the estimated amount damage had not been made as of 10:30 pm Saturday..
