Family, Local business surprise World War II Veteran for 100th birthday

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) A local World War II veteran with a love for putt putt, got a big surprise Saturday evening.

Raymond Stephenson turns 100-years-old on September 22nd.

To celebrate, his family threw him a surprise birthday party with the help of Sports Center in Topeka.

Raymond's daughter said he loves playing putt putt, and Sports Center became his favorite spot.

When the owners found out it was his 100th birthday, they offered up their space for his party.

Raymond said his key to living so long is that he wasn't going to let his kids outlive him.

While surrounded by family and friends, he said he feels very thankful.

"This is the most important thing that I ever had. All these people come here to see me," Raymond said.

Raymond fought in five major World War II battles, including D-Day in Normandy, France.
