TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- BobbyD's manager Michael Cain says the kitchen crew can work their way around a kitchen.
"Our slogan is, it's all about the meat," he said.
And it's not just any meat, Bobby D's Merchant Street BBQ is famous in Emporia for it's slow cooked, fall off the bone meat.
Coupled with salads, fish, and even steaks on the menu, many customers can't say no to the wide range of food items.
"Stuff that you wouldn't think of in a barbecue restaurant, we serve here," Cain said.
Guests can also munch on hearty burgers, smoked turkey, and of course, BobbyD's famous cheesy mashed potatoes.
Once that's topped of with fried okra, customers have a plate hearty enough to have for both lunch and dinner.
Cain says that's what makes the restaurant's owner, Bobby Doudican, proud.
The restaurant is also known for daily specials, including favorites like Prime Rib on the menu.
"We were told that we have the best prime rib in the state," Cain said. "I'm not sure if that's true, but I think we have the best prime rib in the state!
But if you want to grab a plate - get in line. Tables fill up fast as soon as the doors open for lunch. Cain says he's ready to make a barbecue believer out of even the biggest skeptics.
"If you're not a barbecue person and you try one of our menu items," he says, "you'll be a barbecue person after."
BobbyD's is open Monday-Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. It is is located on 607 Merchant St. in Emporia.
