Emporia student killed in Branson wreck

(WIBW) - An Emporia teen was killed in a southwest Missouri wreck that also injured four of his family members.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol crash log states the crash happened just after 10 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 76, two miles west of Branson.

According to the patrol, Carlos Garate, 41, of Emporia was eastbound in a minivan. He slowed to make a left turn, and was rear-ended by a pickup, driven by Gideon Dunn, 37, of Branson.

Ace Garate, 13, was killed. Carlos Garate suffered minor injuries, as did his other passengers, Alina Garate, 64; Mercedes Garate, 64; and Amy Garate, 37.

Dunn was not hurt.

Ace Garate was a student at Emporia Middle School. KVOE Radio reports additional counselors will be at the school Thursday.
