Emporia police investigating early morning shooting

EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) — Emporia police are investigating after finding a teenager suffering from an apparent gunshot wound early Tuesday morning.

Officers found the victim, who was identified as Kenneth Hopkins, of Emporia, around 5:30 a.m. after responding to reports of a shooting victim near the 200 block of E. 6th Ave., the Emporia Police Dept. said.

They located Hopkins, 18, and another person, whose name was not released, at the intersection of 6th and Union Street.

Investigators are still trying to determine where the shooting actually occurred and have not identified any suspects.

Hopkins was initially taken to Newman's Hospital and then transferred to the an out-of-town hospital for treatment, police said. They added that the injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
