Emporia State women end season in NCAA first round

HAYS, Kan. (AP) -- The Emporia State women's basketball team's season came to a close on Friday in the Hornets' 71-65 loss against Southwestern Oklahoma.

Seven-seed ESU began the fourth quarter with an 8-point lead, but fell to a late comeback run in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 7 nationally, held the Hornets to an over five minute scoring drought in the third after ESU led 43-42 at the half.

Tyra Jones led Emporia State with 17 points and ten rebounds followed by Jessica Wayne with 9 points and Emily Miller with 8 points.
