TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- UPDATE: The shelters were closed around 5 p.m.

Two emergency shelters have been set up in Wabaunsee Co. for people who were stranded on I-70 on Sunday afternoon.

The stretch of highway was shut down all of the way through the county because there were so many accidents, KDOT said.

The shelters are located at:

  • Trinity Lutheran Church, 322 Main Street, in McFarland, Kansas;
  • Senior Center, 218 Main Street, in Maple Hill, Kansas

The Wabaunsee Co. says stranded motorists are able to find shelter at these two locations.
