Emerald City Cosmos Put On First Diabetic Resource Fair

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) The Emerald City Cosmos of Topeka are trying something new this year to inform the public about diabetes.

The Cosmos are a club that donates and volunteers to the community, in an effort to prevent and find a cure for diabetes.

Emerald City Cosmos President Lindsay Engelken defines the disease as this, "Diabetes is one of the fastest growing diseases and killers in our country, it's the silent killer."

The organization says they have been passionate about doing a health fair for some time now, and on Saturday they had 21 vendors that each provided different prevention tips and resources.

Vendors put on presentations ranging from how to prepare a healthy meal, to the advantages of diabetic shoes, and even chair yoga.

Engelken has both family and friends with diabetes and said, "I just want to give back in any way I can and educate."

While this was their first diabetic resource fair, the Cosmos say they plan to do more in the future.
