East Topeka Toll Plaza transitions to new pay method

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Starting Wednesday, Turnpike drivers who have a K-Tag won't have to slow down at the East Topeka Terminal.

The Kansas Turnpike Authority announced the East Topeka Toll Plaza will move to "open road tolling".

KTA says the change allows highway-speed travel in electronic lanes.

Construction for the change began in October 2017, and drivers commuting eastbound on I-70 transitioned to the new payment method in August.

Drivers who pay with cash will use the right-hand lane when traveling westbound, a far-right lane has been designated for drivers exiting the K-4 highway.

KTA urges drivers to pay close attention during the transition.
