TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) — BREAKING UPDATE: Camo has been found and is safe. He had been missing since a wreck on Hwy. 24 that sent three people to the hospital.
A dog who was riding in one of the vehicles involved in a Wednesday crash that sent three people, including a young child, to the hospital ran off after the crash -- and friends have taken to Facebook to find it.
The brindle-colored lab mix, named Camo, was riding in the Jeep Cherokee that was driven by Caitlyn Midyett at the time of the wreck.
Shortly after the crash, Camo was seen north of the crash scene. He was spotted near the 22nd Street and Thompsonville Road interchange, where the latter turns into Spillway Road - south of the west end of the Perry State Park dam.
On Friday, friends of Midyett who have been searching for Camo ever since the wreck will get a little help from a bloodhound trained to track down other missing pups. The same bloodhound helped track down another dog who escaped after a deadly wreck on Hwy. 75 less than two weeks ago.
Anyone in the area who has seen Camo is asked to call or text 785-231-9808 or 785-691-6878. A cash reward us being offered for his return.
Midyett, as well as the driver of the other vehicle, Jessica Harvey, were both flown straight from the scene of the crash, along Hwy. 24, west of Perry, to a Kansas City hospital, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
KHP also said a four-year-old child riding in Midyett's SUV was injured and taken to Stormont-Vail hospital.
The crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. near the Hwy. 24 and Kiowa Road intersection, KHP said. The Jefferson Co. Sheriff's Office closed the highway from Ferguson Road and Thompsonville Road while crews worked the scene.
According to KHP investigators, a Pontiac G6 driven by Harvey, 41, crossed the center line of the highway and collided with the SUV driven by the 26-year-old Midyett.
