TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A man is in the hospital after he wrecked his car west of Topeka. Deputies suspect alcohol played a part in the crash.

Just after midnight Saturday morning, first responders were called to the intersection of SW Huntoon and Indian Hills Road.

Investigating deputies say the man was driving his silver Chevy Impala east on SW Huntoon, when he went through the T intersection at Indian Hills.

They believe he didn’t try to stop, entered the east ditch and hit the embankment.

He drove through a pasture, came back on the road and entered the other ditch along Huntoon where the car finally stopped.

First responders treated the man on scene and then took him to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies say while they suspect alcohol played a part in the crash, this serves as a reminder to have a designated driver if you plan on participating in the St. Patrick’s Day festivities.
