TOPEKA (WIBW)--- No matter your disability or economic status, all of us should dare to lead.
That's the message 23 delegates of this year's Kansas Youth Leadership Forum are putting to use.
The week long program is geared toward juniors and seniors in high school who are living with disabilities. Discussions during the week include advocacy, leadership, and making their voices heard.
The forum has more than 400 alums across the state, putting the lessons into practice.
"I feel like we definitely have come such a long way," Carrie Greenwood, Program Coordinator for Kansas Youth Empowerment Academy, said. "We actually had a history presentation this morning and it just really showed us just how far we have come, but there are some people who don't know their full potential and realize their possibilities. you can be a leader, you can be successful, you can be empowered."
Greenwood was a part of the first Kansas Leadership forum 18 years ago.
The event includes a luncheon Thursday honoring outstanding achievements.
