DA charges 17-year-old with murder in Usher killing, wants to try him as an adult

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Shawnee Co. District Attorney's Office has released the name of the 17-year-old who faces second-degree murder charges stemming from the death of a Topeka teen over the weekend.

In addition to murder, Auston Michael Shane McNeely also faces charges of interference with law enforcement, theft of a firearm, and criminal use of weapons. District Attorney Mike Kagay says he plans to ask a court to try McNeely as an adult.

He is accused of killing Ashley Usher who was found early Saturday afternoon suffering from a gunshot wound in a home in the 2200 block of SE Ohio Ave. The 18-year-old Usher was rushed to the hospital where she later died.
