DA: Woman suffered blunt force trauma

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Prosecutors say a woman found dead in a gas-filled home had suffered severe blunt force trauma.

Shawnee Co. District Attorney Mike Kagay revealed the information Friday in announcing he filed charges of premeditated first degree murder, criminal threat, and domestic battery against Jeremy Lardner.

Lardner, 36, is accused of killing Brandi Prchal, 36. Her family said Lardner was Prchal's ex-boyfriend.

The Topeka Fire Dept. found the pair Nov. 1 when responding to reports of a natural gas odor at 928 SW Warren. According to the DA's news release, firefighters forced their way inside the home, where they found Lardner unconscious, and Prchal beaten and unresponsive.

Prchal was pronounced dead at the scene. Lardner was taken to the hospital. Authorities arrested him when doctors released him Wednesday.

Lardner remains jailed on $1 million bond. He is set for a status conference Nov. 14.
