Council defers two CID ordinances

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Topeka’s City Council will hold off on action for the Community Improvement Districts after having the public hearings on Tuesday.

The governing body deferred the ordinance for the CID at SW 17th and Wanamaker until May 7, 2019 and the ordinance regarding CID at Sherwood Crossing until June 18, 2019.

The Sherwood Crossing hearing was a continuation from the April 2 meeting and the ordinance deferred for the second time.

The CID would establish a one percent sales tax increase at both locations which would serve as reimbursement to the developers with the City not taking any risk or financial obligation.

Sherwood Crossing was established as a tax increment financing (TIF) district on March 19, 2019.
