TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Several marketing industry hopefuls got the chance to test drive their future careers Wednesday, thanks to the MB Piland Advertising and Marketing agency's 5th annual "Career Test Drive" .
The local program started after the agency's owner, Martha Bartlett Piland, realized students needed a hands on experience to completely understand what their career paths meant.
Students learned how to created innovative branding strategies, while picking the brains of associates at the agency. The students, who were on spring break, hailed from Washburn University, Allen Community College, and Wichita State University. Each participant went through a selective application process, and only six students were chosen.
Piland says while participants can't learn everything in one day, the program is a great way for them to sharpen their skills.
"The fact that they are here during spring break says a lot for them," Piland said. "A lot of the time, we are talking about the importance of the workforce and how it's important to get quality people. This is a way to help develop our workforce for the future."
Piland says several of the participants later become interns for the program.
