Before the parade, several hundred people showed up early to run in the 14th annual Miracle on Kansas Avenue Rescue run - supporting Topeka's Rescue Mission's final run.

After the race finished, Evergy kicked off the parade with the Community Tree Lighting ceremony.

"It was beautiful, that was the first time we've seen that so it was amazing," the Kelley family said.

Red, green, and white lights decked the streets of downtown Topeka and it was a must see sight for families all across the area.

Hundreds of people stood along the streets to see a variety of floats, and some shared their favorite ones.

"The hot air balloons, when its this cold," the Kelley family said. "I like all the Grinch's, I think that's cool."

There was a lot to see at the MKA parade, even the 13 NEWS crew got to join in on the fun, as Melissa Brunner and Ralph Hipp emceed and streamed the entire parade live on Facebook.

"Everybody comes together at this time of the year it doesn't matter where your from or what you do, everybody comes together and says hi, and Merry Christmas," the Kelley family said.

"Everybody is in such a happy state of mind right now and full of joy," Jo Mayfield emphasized. "If everyday could be like Christmas, what a wonderful world this would be."

After the parade people could enjoy some hot chocolate, cookies and carols hosted by the Topeka First Methodist Church.
