(WIBW) - To help shore up its running back depth with the release of Kareem Hunt, the Chiefs have brought back a familiar face.

The team announced the signing of Charcandrick West on Monday. Kansas City released the running back in August.

West figures to back up new starting running back Spencer Ware. He is familiar with the offense after spending four seasons with Kansas City.

In West's second season in 2015, he rushed for a team-high 634 yards with four touchdowns while carrying the ball 160 times. That season, starter Jamaal Charles tore his ACL in a week five loss to the Bears, knocking him out for the rest of the year.

West's rushing workload then steadily declined. After 2015, the 27-year-old's carries dropped to 88 in 2016 and 18 in 2017.

For his career, West has 999 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. He's also caught 75 passes for 552 yards and five touchdowns.
