TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Two people suffered serious injuries when their car rolled into a creek Monday night on Topeka's south side.
Authorities had SW Burlingame Rd. closed around the 3600 block late Monday while the accident reconstruction team investigated.
Topeka Police say the car went off the road in that block just after 8:30 p.m. It went down an embankment and stopped up-side-down in a creek.
First responders rescued two people from the car. They were taken to the hospital with what police described as serious injuries.
TPD identified one of them as Joe L. Webster, 23, and said the other person was a 17-year-old girl, but did not release her name.
TPD also says crews were initially told a child also may have been in the car, but no one else was found, and their investigation found no child was with the adults.
Crews had pulled the vehicle out of the creek just before 10 p.m. Monday, however Burlingame Rd. remained closed while their investigation continued.
Authorities continue investigating what caused the vehicle to go off the road but, the road has since re-opened.
