For over 45 years, the holiday tradition continues at Fairlawn Plaza Mall on Saturday.

Twelve families from the Capper Foundation had a chance to enjoy a shopping trip given by the Fairlawn Plaza Mall.

This year's event began at Walgreens, where children purchased up to $40 in gifts for their family and friends, and their presents were wrapped by Fairlawn Plaza staff.

Then they enjoyed lunch at Kiku's Steakhouse and finished the day at Santa's workshop.

The owner of Fairlawn Plaza, Randy Austin says this shopping trip empowers the children in a positive way.

"I'm always struck by is that two things, one is that children are able to get eight or ten gifts in a half an hour period of time and they never get anything for themselves," Austin explained. "I think its a wonderful thing that they get in the spirit of giving."

The Capper Foundation says events like these help children build their abilities and gain greater independence.
