The Brown County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a new scam targeting those with student loans.

Sheriff John D. Merchant says several residents have received calls from individuals claiming to be student loan representatives with a fake U.S. Government caller ID.

The scammers are telling residents they have a refund coming back on their student loans due to incorrect interest on their loan account.

The scammers then pressure residents to give out their personal bank account information.

Sheriff Merchant says no one has been a victim of this scam, but is reminding everyone to never give out personal information through the phone.

If you have questions about your student loans call your provider directly and notify police if you think you have been scammed.
