Man who accidentally drowned in Lake Shawnee identified

Shawnee County officials have identified the man who accidentally drowned in Lake Shawnee April 4th as Jack R. Shutt, 77, of Topeka.

Authorities said a preliminary investigation showed that Shutt was the victim of an accidental drowning.

Shawnee Co. Sheriff Herman Jones said a person in a sailboat spotted the man in the water around 4:14 p.m. Monday.

Shutt was unresponsive when Wildlife and Parks and Shawnee Heights Fire Dept. crews pulled him from the water on the west side of the lake, near the Shawnee Yacht Club.

Mr. Shutt’s wife reported last seeing him at their residence at 2 p.m..

Officials 13 NEWS that the cause of death is listed as drowning, pending confirmation by the Shawnee Co. Coroner's office.

Foul play is not suspected.
