JACKSON CO., Kan. (WIBW) - Prairie Band Casino and Resort is betting on a major expansion to up the ante on its entertainment offerings.
Friday launched the second phase of casino and resort renovations.
General Manager Bill Marsh says it's the biggest project they've ever undertaken.
"This is the biggest leap in the history, I believe, of the Prairie Band Casino and Resort."
Dozens of people lined up near the casino's main entrance to see the groundbreaking.
"It changes thing a lot here at Prairie Band," Marsh said.
"Previously we focused solely on gaming, and now we're expanding to be able to offer the entire resort and gaming experience."
Friday's event cashes in on two and a half years of planning and design.
A new tower will rise on the east side of the property. It'll include 74 rooms, an indoor/outdoor pool, a full service spa and sauna, and additional convention space.
"Offer more of a full-resort experience to our guests," Marsh said.
This time, it's all in on the resort side.
"Full-service spa, full-service resort, and full-service gaming facility ... From beginning to end, from the time you enter the new facility to the time you leave we're wanting to offer the entire resort experience."
They expect work to start soon - and the project finished by the end of October in 2020.
Of course this is also a big win for potential employees too.
Marsh says it'll open up a number of jobs needed to keep the new facility running.
