Big Red One is mourning death of another soldier

The Big Red One is mourning the loss of one of its soldiers.

Pvt. John Martinez was found unconscious Saturday morning in his barracks. He later died at Irwin Army Community Hospital.

Pvt. Martinez was a Cavalry Scout with troop A, 5th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment.

He joined the Army in July 2016 and arrived at Fort Riley last November.

Honors for the Houston, Texas man include the National Defense Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

His death remains under investigation.
