Bicyclist refuses to let regret take over, rides bike across the U.S.
Nearly nine months and 48 states later, a Topeka man is back in the Capital City after pedaling his way across the country.
Gavin Feeney departed from Topeka Sept. 1, 2015 on a solo bike tour across the continental United States.
“I was scared of regretting it in the future, of not doing it,” he said. “At some point I decided that I just had to go for it and I did.”
Feeney grew up in Topeka and earned an aerospace engineering degree from Wichita State University. He was working for Learjet when he made the decision to see the country.
“A lot of it panned out to be what I thought it would be,” he said. “You meet a lot of great people; get to see a lot of beautiful spots in the U.S. and a lot of places you never knew existed.”
He says one of the great families that he met was the one that hosted him for Thanksgiving dinner.
He was at Christ the King Elementary Tuesday sharing his story to his mom’s students.
