WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) -- The Barber County Undersheriff has been bound over for trial in the deadly shooting of a Sun City man.

A judge denied Virgil "Dusty" Brewer's motion for self-defense immunity in the 2017 shooting death of Steven Myers. Brewer is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the case.

Brewer shot and killed Myers with what was supposed to have been a "less lethal" round.

The KBI says the fatal shot was a round fired by Brewer without training.

During Brewer's preliminary hearing, a less lethal weapon expert testified the beanbag round that killed Myers was purchased on the internet from a man in Michigan and was 4-5 times faster than a standard round.
