Authorities searching for escaped burglary suspect

SHAWNEE COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) - The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help locating a burglary suspect who escaped custody Sunday morning.

Deputies were conducting a traffic stop in the 4500 block of SE Oak Bend DR at around 3 am Sunday when the driver, Tanner James Thompson, 23, was taken into custody on a felony warrant for burglary as well as other traffic-related charges.

Thompson escaped during the investigation, and an extensive search continues in the area. An increased law enforcement presence will also in the southeast part of the county while they search.

Thompson is a white male, 6’0” 175 lbs. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information on Thompson’s whereabouts, or is a witness to suspicious activity in the area, is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 785-251-2200.
