TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) A late night altercation in the Montara neighborhood sent a Topeka man, first, to the hospital with a gunshot wound, and then to the Shawnee Co. jail, according to the Shawnee Co. Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office says Alfredo Campa-Vazquez, 25, was booked on a count of aggravated battery after he was released from a local hospital, where he was taken for treatment. He was reportedly shot in the leg when he tried going into a neighbor’s home during an altercation in the 7200 block of SW Glencrest Dr.

Deputies responded to the neighborhood around 11 p.m. where they found Campa-Vasquez wounded.

They took the man who shot him into custody for questioning; he has since been released. The Sheriff’s Office did not release his name.

The incident remains under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office notes.
