TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Community members are getting outside for a good cause this weekend.
The American Heart Association is hosting their annual Topeka Heart Walk at Lake Shawnee Saturday.
The walk helps raise funds for research into cardiovascular disease and promotes physical activity to keep people healthy.
The AHA claims that mortality rates from heart disease and strokes have dropped by 45 percent since they started the heart walk in 1993.
Activities and check-in begin 8 a.m. at Lake Shawnee Shelter House 1 and 2 on Saturday. The walk kicks off at 9:15 a.m.
Registration and more information about the Heart Walk can be found on the AHA's website.
