TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- AAA is warning drivers who plan on leaving for the holiday weekend on Wednesday…don’t!
According to the auto group, peak driving time for the Thanksgiving holiday will be the day before Thanksgiving.
“Although travel times will peak on Wednesday afternoon nationally, travelers should expect much heavier than normal congestion throughout the week,” said transportation analyst Trevor Reed.
They predict that 49.3 million Americans will be traveling by automobile for the holiday. Some trips could take as much as four times longer than normal in major metros.
They say it will be the second-highest Thanksgiving travel volume they began tracking in 2000.
A winter storm will also impact the Midwest region, causing even more delays.
