A local church has a brand new look in downtown Topeka.

St. Joseph Catholic Church held a mass of thanksgiving Sunday morning along with dedicating the church's new alter.

The historic St. Joseph church restoration project totaled nearly 7.2 million dollars.

The church replaced artwork, lighting, flooring and every corner of the sanctuary was restored.

One of the most striking features was the paintings on the sanctuary's ceiling, depicting biblical stories.

"I think more importantly today is a celebration of renewal of Faith and the living stones of the people of this congregation. To appreciate the artwork and be inspired by the artwork, the work of the artists whether its through paintings, whether its through woodwork, whether it's through the stained-glass, so much to admire and so much to inspire," Rev. Tim Haberkorn said.

The restoration project took over six years to complete.
