RILEY, Kan. (WIBW) - The Kansas Highway Patrol says a 9-year-old involved in a three-vehicle wreck Tuesday night has passed away.
According to the KHP Crash Log, a vehicle driven by Lauren VanMeter, 25, was stopped at Highway 24 between Manhattan and Riley and failed to yield while attempting to make a left turn on to Highway 77. This is the turnoff to the town of Riley.
She was hit by Darrell Thompson, 59, of Wamego, and his vehicle then crossed the center line and crashed into a car driven by Mason Miller.
The 9-year-old was taken to Wesley Medical in Wichita and passed away Wednesday morning. VanMeter was transported to a hospital. An 8-year-old was flown to KU Hospital and is still in serious condition. Two infants and a two-year-old were treated and released.
Thompson and Miller were not injured. One of those involved was a Westar vehicle.
KHP cannot confirm if the children were wearing seatbelts.
