TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) It was a chilly morning in Downtown Topeka, but that didn't stop runners and walkers from participating in a 5K race.
The 7th annual Bridge2Bridge 5K run and walk gives participants a new perspective of downtown.
President and CEO of Downtown Topeka Inc. Vince Frye said this about the event, "It's unique in that it takes people across Topeka Boulevard bridge and then back across the Kansas Avenue bridge. It gives them a real neat urban experience and its something that kinda starts the running season."
Two Topeka Metro bike riders got to lead the pack.
13's Melissa Brunner even laced up for the race.
The top three overall male and female runners received cash prizes.
Each year the event benefits a different local non profit, and this year a portion of the proceeds went to Project Forward.
Project Forward is a mentorship program for youth in the community.
