FORK IN THE ROAD: 4th and Elm Bar and Grill draws a crowd with classic, American cuisine

WAMEGO, Kan. (WIBW) - A bar and grill has been steadily growing over the last few years just a block away from downtown Wamego.

The owner of 4th and Elm Bar and Grill says his secret is simple,

“You know we kinda have a motto of having four good things here. Good help, hot food, cold drinks, and good drinks."

Herman has been working in the restaurant business for a while.

“I grew up here from age three through high school. I was born in western Kansas, which I moved back in 2008," Herman said.

"I ran my dad’s sports bar he’s owned one for 20 years.”

He's run restaurants in other cities before - but he wanted to bring something back to Wamego.

Now just over two years old - 4th and elm has already developed a strong following.

“The numbers we seen the first year opened definitely exceeded what I thought we were gonna do. And then it even got better year two so, we’re on pace again for year three to do even more so we’re definitely progressing,” Herman said.

Herman manages the restaurant - but he can't stay away from the kitchen.

A lot of his time is spent in the back.

“Well, I know how to cook a burger so we’re definitely known for our burger," he said.

“it’s your basic American restaurant, your burgers, your salads, your wraps, wings ... burgers are definitely our number one seller but we like to think everything here is good.”

It draws a crowd - in just a few hours after opening - the restaurant was filled for the lunch rush.

With that winning combination of cold beer and good food - it's easy to see why.

“We pretty much got it all,” Herman said.

Herman says with warmer weather the patio outside is the perfect place for burgers and beer.
