DA: Lawrence man covered by "stand your ground law" in fatal shooting

TOPEKA (WIBW)-- A Lawrence man will not face charges in a fatal shooting at his home.

The Lawrence Journal World reports Douglas Co. District Attorney Charles Branson cited Kansas' "stand our ground" law in opting not to charge Robert Patrick.

Trevor Mohawk was killed April 4th. Authorities say he was on Patrick's front porch and, when Patrick told him to leave, Mohawk turned around and attacked Patrick.

Police say the two struggled and Patrick shot Mohawk five times, saying he feared for his life as he was fighting Mohawk, who was a larger man.

Kansas law states a person is justified using deadly force, unless there is probable cause to believe it was unjustified.
