TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Topeka Police Dept. has arrested a second person in connection with the shooting death of a 20-year-old Topeka man late last week.
On Monday, John F. Alston was booked into the Shawnee Co. jail on a single count of interference with a law enforcement officer, according to police.
Earlier in the day, Brandon L. Gayer appeared in a Shawnee Co. courtroom where he was officially charged with first-degree murder and interference with a law enforcement officer. The 18-year-old Topeka man's bond was set at $1 million.
Alston, 21, and Gayer were both arrested for the killing of Gianni Sebastian Noriega. Officers found Noriega's body around 5:20 p.m. last Thursday after responding to reports of gunfire in the 400 block of SW Taylor Street. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Gayer was arrested Sunday evening near SE 45th St. and SE Paulen Rd. The search for him spurred TPD officers to hold an apartment in the 2100 block of SW MacVicar, which caused the entire block to close.
