TOPEKA (WIBW) -- Wednesday was graduation night for some area citizens, who've learned more about Sheriff's Office operations.

Sheriff Herman Jones and his staffers honored the 19 new graduates of their SCSO Citizens' Academy inside the center named for Sheriff Jones predecessor, Richard Barta.

The Topeka-area graduates have successfully finished a dozen weeks of law enforcement education, including Patrol Operations, Computer Crimes and Criminal Investigations.

Sheriff Jones says their main goal is building positive relationships with the people of Shawnee County by having them learn the day-to-day operations of what his deputies and investigators do.
