17 hurt in school bus wreck on the Turnpike, south of Emporia

EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW/KWCH/KVOE) -- Emergency crews are on scene of a wreck involving a school bus on the Kansas Turnpike south of Emporia.

According to the KTA, the wreck happened Wednesday on I-35 mile marker 112.6 northbound.

Emporia Fire officials confirmed for KVOE radio that at least 17 people have been hurt and have been transported to Newman Regional Health and Emporia High School for care.

The bus was carrying fourth and fifth-graders from Park Elementary in Wichita who were on a field trip to Topeka.

The Kansas Turnpike says the right lane is impacted by the accident. Drivers should expect delays.
