WAYNE COUNTY (WJRT) - An Operation MISafeKid sweep on Sept. 26 helped police find 107 missing children in the Detroit, Michigan, area.
The sweep was similar to an operation conducted around Genesee County in June, during which police found 51 missing children. Both sweeps targeted sex trafficking victims.
Officers from several local, state and federal law enforcement agencies spent eight hours going around the county checking the last known addresses of missing kids, their friends houses and schools.
All of the 107 children recovered in Wayne County were interviewed about possibly being victims of sex trafficking. Three new sex trafficking cases were opened afterward, according to the Michigan State Police.
A 14-year-old found squatting in a vacant home was returned to foster care.
