1 hurt in garbage truck wreck in southern Shawnee Co.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) --- A Topeka man was taken to the hospital Monday morning after a garbage truck crashed in southern Shawnee Co. and ended up on its side.

According to the Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Office, its deputies were called to the scene of the wreck, in the 6600 block of SW Lewelling Rd., shortly before 10 a.m.

Investigators say the driver lost control of the Osage Waste Disposal truck was heading north when the driver lost control of the vehicle. It went off the road and came to a rest in a field, on its side.

Two of the men in the truck were treated at the scene and released. Their names were not released.

The third man, Larry Lane, 53, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. The Shawnee Heights Fire Dept. and AMR also responded to the scene.
