If you had told me when I was in high school that a few years later I’d be a TV Sports Anchor, I would’ve assumed you meant a different Mitchel. Probably a Mitchel spelled with two “L’s.”
I grew up at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. I always liked writing and telling stories, but those were stories I made up. Actually, I didn’t start liking sports until high school. When I started college at the University of Missouri, all my friends were going to a student run television program and I thought I’d fit in and tag along.
Sure enough, I graduated from the University of Missouri in sports journalism. That led me to a television station in Abilene, Texas. High school football is everything and more than what you’d expect in Texas. During my two years there I met a lot of cool people, told some meaningful stories and grew both professionally and personally.
I’m really excited to come to Topeka and do all three of those things again!
Off the air, my world revolves around Oliver – my orange cat (I taught him how to sit and I’m really proud of it). I like trying new foods, watching musicals and listening to podcasts.
I’d love to learn more about you and tell your stories!
