Dani Welniak is the sports director for KCTV5 in Kansas City and host of The Locker Room Show for KSMO. She is a retired professional football player, starring as a wide receiver for the Dallas Diamonds. She was a team captain, three-time All-Pro, 2008 Women's Super Bowl champion, 2007 Rookie of the Year, and a member of the first women's USA national team in 2010 which won a gold medal.
She covered the Royals run to the World Series in 2014 and 2015, the Jayhawks trip to the Final Four in 2018 and the Chiefs Super Bowls in 2020 and 2021.
Dani was born in Peoria, IL, spent three years in Melbourne, Australia and grew up in Fort Worth, TX. In high school she was named Prom Queen and Ms. Daredevil. She graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in Sports Media and a minor in Zoology.
She started her career path in Dodge City, KS covering high school sports for Catch It Kansas before being promoted after two years into the main station in Wichita, KS (KWCH 12). In 2016, Dani came to Kansas City with her husband, Bradly, to join KCTV5. She was also the sideline analyst for the Chiefs Radio Network from 2016 through 2019.
Dani made history in 2019 as a color analyst for the Cure Bowl when she became part of the first all-female radio crew to call a Division I college football bowl game.
In 2020, she and her husband welcomed their first child, Cameron, to the family.
In her spare time, Dani enjoys competing in Spartan Races, working out, spear-throwing, kayaking, yoga, indoor rock climbing, deepening her spiritual Christian journey and coffee.
