Midland Care launches March for Meals campaign
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Every day, hundreds of people across Shawnee, Jefferson and Douglas counties get a free, hot meal delivered, courtesy Meals on Wheels.
But dozens more are waiting. Jessica Mays, Meals on Wheels director for Midland Care, and Jeremy Wiltz, Midland’s chief strategy officer, visited Eye on NE Kansas to share how people can help.
The March for Meals campaign is a nationwide fundraising effort for the Meals on Wheels program. The Topeka-area MOW program is administered through Midland Care. For their March for Meals efforts, an anonymous donor is matching donations up to $25,000.
Mays said more than 1,200 people get a meal delivered every day through Midland’s Meals on Wheels. Hundreds more are fed at congregate sites. To do that, volunteer drivers travel nearly 80 different routes, delivering to around 15 homes each.
To make it work takes financial donations and volunteer drivers. Right now, Midland MOW has a list of more than 200 seniors waiting for service.

A donation of $75 will provide 10 meal deliveries; $150 feeds one client for an entire month; and $600 will sponsor an entire route for one day.
