Teen sentenced in accidental shooting death of Topeka middle school student
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A teenager who was found guilty in the death of an Eisenhower Middle School student was sentenced, Katie Garceran with the Shawnee Co. District Attorney’s Office told 13 NEWS.
A teen was sentenced to 54 months in the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex and one year of aftercare on Friday, Aug. 16. The sentencing of the teen was in connection to the shooting death of Kaleb Lane, 13.
On March 16, 2023, Topeka Police responded to a shooting in the 1300 block of SW Garfield Ave. where they found Lane suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Lane was transported to the hospital but was later pronounced deceased.
The 14-year-old at the time of the shooting, was found guilty on June 13, 2024. The teen was found guilty of reckless second-degree murder and criminal use of a firearm by a juvenile.
